Toddler: “Why?” Me: “42.” Nailed it.

Like most kids her age, my three-year-old asks “Why?” roughly twenty-seven times a day. Being a parent who generally likes to her educate her children and likes to learn herself, I don’t mind answering that question – for the most part.

Other times, my voice is almost hoarse by the end of the day. Really!

These are the times I wish there was an easy answer, something a la Douglas Adams, something that will finish the endless stream of “Why?”s. I want the toddler version of the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

So I can just say, “42, kiddo. 42.”
