Toddler Talk Tuesdays: Coloring Books and Blue Meanies

A few days ago my 3yo was coloring at her coloring table while I was nursing her baby sister in the next room. Midway through she comes in, clutching her coloring book to tell me:

“Mom! This is the coloring book I’m going to bring to school. And I need to bring my crayons, too. I’ll do my ABCs. This is my new Blue Meanie book. But there aren’t any Blue Meanies in it, only pink Blue Meanies.”

A Blue Meanie from Yellow Submarine

For the record, we’d been talking to her about starting preschool after the holidays … and she also really likes the movie Yellow Submarine. We talk about Blue Meanies, Jeremy the Nowhere Man, and the Beatles allllll day long…!

Maybe I’m the only one who thinks this is funny … it’s just so straight toddler logic! It just barely edged out her first attempts at using the word “diarrhea” in a sentence.

  1. I remember when my college roommate watched the movie Help! with her three-year-old sister, painstakingly explaining every single thing that happened in the movie. A few days later, she found her sister playing with her Polly Pocket doll house. “Who lives in this house?” “John, Paul, and sometimes Wingo.” George was never home….
